The down-home humor and backwoods wisdom of Duck Dynasty have taken the country by storm. The Robertson family has everyone talking, not to mention laughing. This family-focused TV show is a favorite of all kinds of kids: girls, boys, and even the grown-ups. It also makes a wholesome party theme.
Dressing up like the Robertson clan is simple and fun. Fancy costumes aren’t necessary. You probably have most of what you need already at home with just a few additions.
Bandanas are a must for a Duck Dynasty birthday theme. An American flag bandana folded and tied as a headband is a must for Willie’s look. Head-to-toe camouflage clothes and wrap-around sunglasses will give you Phil’s typical style. And no Robertson man would be caught dead without a long, manly beard! You can make one from fabric store “fun fur” with elastic ear loops.
Home-style southern food is a must for a Duck Dynasty party. Old home favorites like cornbread, biscuits, and fried chicken are always a hit. You can also get creative and serve your own twist on items you may have seen on the show like “frogs on a stick” (chicken tenders on a skewer) or barbecued gator (chicken again).
For dessert, make cake ball “squirrel brains.” Just drip cake balls in white chocolate and use a cake decorating pen draw in the squiggly lines of a brain. A salty-sweet snack could be “beaver dams” – really chocolate haystacks made of pretzels. Be sure to accompany your spread with lots of sweet tea to honor Uncle Si’s favorite beverage.
Even if you aren’t a hunter, you can still pretend to hunt ducks in the back yard. Just set up duck-shaped cardboard cutouts and “hunt” them by tossing beanbags to knock them down. Increase the distance from the target to make the game more difficult.
Use a fishing rod (or a stick and string) equipped with a magnet instead of a hook to catch paper fish. Make the fish magnetic by attaching a simple paperclip. If you don’t want the clip to show, sandwich two fish together with glue and hide the paperclip inside. Let the kids decorate the fish before or after they are “caught.”
Duck decoys are the perfect choice for table decorations but bathtub ducks will be a humorous alternative if decoys aren’t available. Be sure to use plenty of camouflage on the tables and as a backdrop for your photo booth, too. Taking pictures during a Duck Dynasty birthday party makes for fun memories later on.
Your party is sure to be “happy, happy, happy” with a Duck Dynasty theme.
