Throwing a Hippie Party
The road to nostalgia is a short one when you throw your party Hippie style! Use these party activity and food ideas to bring the 60s back at your party.Party Activities
Sand Art: Bright colors were very popular in the 1960s. Sand art is a fun activity to leave the kids with something to take home. Buy small plastic jars and several different colors of sand. Let the kids fill their jars with the different colored sand in layers. They look really cool when they’re filled!Cake Walk: This game is a lot like musical chairs. Instead of chairs though, use mats or mark off squares with chalk or tape. Play some tunes like The Beatles and have everyone dance around while the music plays. When the music stops everyone has to find a spot to stand in. Whoever doesn’t find a spot is out.
Groovy Movie Time: At the end of the party, play a movie set in the hippie era. Herbie the Lovebug and Hair are movies kids would enjoy. It’s the perfect way to wind down at the end of the party.
Dance-Off: See who has the best moves! Play some classic ‘60s music and have a dance competition. Make two lines and have them face each other. Have each kid go down the middle of the lines and show their best moves.
Party Food
Buffalo Wings: Did you know buffalo wings were invented in the ‘60s? Serve them at your party in different flavored sauces. You could even make them boneless, so it’s easier for kids to eat.Veggies with Dip: Hippies were always trying to eat healthy and organic. Have some veggies and dip to go with this theme. It’s a healthy snack to have out the whole time at the party.
Trail Mix: Another fun and healthy snack that goes with anything. Make your own by mixing pretzels, peanuts, raisins and M&M’s. Make sure no guests have any allergies to peanuts though.
Rainbow Sherbet Ice Cream: A very colorful hippie-style dessert! Everyone loves ice cream, and the colors fit the theme perfectly.
