What’s the difference between a rooster and a cockerel?

A cockerel is a male chicken under one year old. A rooster is a male chicken over a year old.

Fun Chicken Fact #1: The Romans used chickens in their oracles. It was considered favorable for a hen to appear on a person’s left.

Fun Chicken Fact #2: In 249 BC, the Roman general Publius Pulcher’s chickens refused to eat before the Battle of Drepana, so ordered them thrown overboard stating, “If they won’t eat, perhaps they will drink.” He subsequently lost the battle and 93 ships. Later, when he returned to Rome, he would be fined and tried for impiety.
