Don’t want to break the bank for a once a year celebration? Looking for ways to throw a fun, cheap party for your child’s birthday? Here are some tips to help you out:
Bake your own cake: This one’s pretty obvious, but you might be surprised how much a cake from a store can cost. This is especially true if you purchase your cake from a high end bakery. If you feel really strongly about offering something more than just a basic cake with frosting, consider adding an edible image of your child’s favorite theme. While an edible image isn’t exactly cheap, it can certainly be less expensive than the store version.
Decorate with balloons: Balloons are inexpensive and can go a long way towards decorating a room. Blow up the balloons and hang them from ceilings, etc. Add sparkle or confetti to the balloons if you’d like to dress them up.
Use solid colored party supplies when possible: Solid colored tableware is usually cheaper than themed partyware. While you may want to get themed tableware for the main items (dinner plates come to mind), mix and match less expensive solid colors for the rest.
Don’t buy party games: There are plenty of games or birthday activities that are inexpensive or free. Construction paper, crayons, glue, etc. can be used in a variety of ways to keep kids busy and having a good time. Plenty of free party games are available using household items you already have.
Have the party at home: It costs money to rent a party location. Make the time and effort to host your party from home and you’ll see the savings.
