Before there were Avengers Party Supplies, the Avengers had to be created in the first place. So, we thought it would be fun to answer some questions about the Avengers and their backgrounds.
How did the Avengers begin?
In 1963, Marvel Comics needed a response to their rival, DC Comics’ successful team of superheroes, The Justice League. So Stan Lee, Marvel’s creator, along with artist Jack Kirby, came up with the Avengers, and introduced them in Avengers #1. Originally, the superhero team’s members consisted of Iron Man, Wasp, Ant-Man, Thor, and the Hulk. Shortly thereafter (in Avenger’s #4), the Avengers rescued and revived Steve Rogers, aka Captain America from ice. Captain America, as it turns out, had been trapped in a state of suspended animation within the ice since 1945. Upon his release, he joined the Avengers.
While the Avengers’ motto has continued to be that they would fight “the foes no single superhero can withstand,” their lineup has evolved over time. Throughout the years, the Avengers have added and dropped a number of characters from their roster, and these haven’t just been superheroes. Robots, mutants, gods, aliens, supernatural characters, and even former super villains have, at times, been in the Avengers.
Which Avengers will appear in the upcoming Avengers movie?
The Avengers slated to appear in the 2012 movie “The Avengers” will show-off a number of superheroes and super villains. Slated to appear are Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johannson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders). It’s still possible that still other heroes/villains may make an appearance.
Will there be more Avengers movies?
Yes, unless something goes terribly wrong. When has Hollywood turned down a sequel, especially of a superhero movie?
The first Avengers movie is scheduled for release on May 4th, 2012.
