Heart Shaped Pizzas for Valentines Day

Here is a fun idea for the family on Valentines Day. I was going to say this would be a fun idea for the kids on Valentines Day but then I thought “why should this be just for kids?”. Grown ups love pizza, too, and this could be a fun family night – especially if you are not able to have the typical ‘romantic’ Valentines Day dinner with your significant other (Valentines Day is on a TUESDAY this year, for goodness sake – difficult night to squeeze romance in between kids homework and dance class).

There are actually some pizza chains that will cut your crust into a heart shape for you, if you request it when you place your order ( I KNOW…..I WAS SURPRISED, TOO!). If you want to go the home made route, which is my personal choice, here are a few ideas.

The easiest option is to make one or two large pizzas for the whole family. If you would rather make individual pizzas for everybody, that is fine too. Everybody can have their own personal favorites if you make little pizzas for everybody. A super easy option for the crust is to buy a pre-made crust, like Boboli, and just use your kitchen scissors to trim them to a heart shape before you put your toppings on. Or, if you prefer, do the same thing with refrigerated pizza dough.

Continue the heart theme with your toppings, as well. Notice the pepperoni in the picture are cut into heart shapes. Too cute! You could do the same thing with ham. If you have a vegetarian, shape green peppers into a heart shape. Be creative with what ever you are using. If you have somebody who only likes cheese, sprinkle the cheese in a heart pattern on top of the sauce. There are no rules. Your pizzas don’t need to look perfect – your goal here is to make everybody feel special by making the effort to take an ordinary meal like pizza and turn it into something a little fun and different.

Do something a little different with the beverages, too. My kids love those Jones sodas in the cool glass bottles and I rarely buy them, but it would be a nice treat for Valentines Day. Pick up some heart shaped crazy straws to make it an extra special treat. Set the table with Valentines party wares, too. Why can’t you have a party in your own home with your immediate family as your only guests. You can! And you should!!
