Recently I have gotten involved in a new hobby, making simple jewelry. It is a lot of fun, and perfect way to relax on a chilly winter evening. By getting a few supplies at my local craft store, I was able to create some fun earrings for myself, and my daughters. And it didn’t take long before they were hooked, too! With just a few simple tools and supplies, you can create really lovely things that are fairly easy to make. Best of all, you can design them to look exactly the way you want!
The girls have already made some trips to bead stores with me, and we have had a lot of fun picking out brightly colored gemstone beads, Czech glass beads, and other lovely accessories. It has turned into a fantastic way for us to spend time together, on a shared hobby! They are already planning on making jewelry for their friends and teachers as Christmas presents, which is wonderful. They are blessed with many friends, and trying to buy Christmas gifts for all of them is an expensive proposition! They are exploring their creative side,and excited about giving people that they care about gifts that are truly made from the heart.
Here are a few simple tools that will get you started. Needlenose pliers, wrapping wire, head pins, earring findings, and of course, beads!
My twelve year old is already planning on having a jewelry-making party for her next birthday. All of the girls will get to make their own jewelry and take them home as party favors. I think bead parties are absolutely perfect for girls parties, sweet sixteen parties, or even bridal showers.
