Smurfs Party Planning Guide

Smurfs Party Supplies

We are happy to announce that Discount Party Supplies is now bursting with Smurfs Party Supplies! Every Saturday morning in the mid-eighties, I was one of the millions of kids who woke up early to enjoy the smurfs cartoon on TV. I just loved Papa Smurf and Brainy Smurf, and I dreamed of being Smurfette. I spoke in Smurf with my friends, since the language was so much fun to play with. So I couldn’t be more excited that a new generation of kids is being exposed to the ever delightful, ever entertaining Smurfs! Why not throw a Smurf party for your youngster this summer, since the amazing big screen adventure, “The Smurfs,” has just been released in theaters!

Invitations

Smurfs Invitations

I think these Smurfs invitations are fantastic, but if you want to get crafty with your son or daughter, then it’s easy as pie to make invitations by hand. You could make the card out of red construction paper. Just fold the paper in half and cut it in the shape of a mushroom, so that when you open up the mushroom, the details are inside. Use whiteout to draw white spots on the mushroom. Or you could simply use white cardstock and cut it out in the shape of a smurf’s hat, and write your invitation in sky blue ink!

Decorations

A blue and white color scheme should do the trick for your Smurfs Party decorations. Using red cardstock or construction paper, cut out mushrooms (don’t forget to whiteout the white spots) to paste on the walls. Also, bring in any plants you can to make your home woodsy like Smurf Village. You can order our super fun Smurfs tablecover, Smurfs dinner plates and dessert plates and Smurfs party cups to add some of the movie’s sparkle to your party space. But you can also use blue and white balloons and solid blue or white table settings and you will be good to go. Think about renting or buying a DVD of some of the Smurfs cartoons from the 1980s, or find out from other parents whether their kids might enjoy all going out to “The Smurfs” together at the party!

Also, something to do in preparation for the party, is to get a few yards of white felt fabric (or any starched white cotton will do) and some white thread. You probably know where I’m going with this…yes, you’re right, I think that it would be fun to make a Smurf hat for all of your guests. For each hat, just cut out two shapes of a Smurf hat and sew them together. It’s super quick and easy, with or without a sewing machine. I still treasure my homemade Smurf hat from a Halloween party way back when.

Games and Activities

Since Gargamel is always trying to capture Smurfs, then a great game to play is hide-and-go-seek with the seeker playing the part of Gargamel. Another fun game is to play musical chairs with the original Smurf music (“La la la la la la, la la la la la…”), and to give the winner a Smurfs award ribbon. Also, kids might enjoy doing some acting. Just write down different Smurf names on different pieces of paper. Then have each kid pick a name out of a hat. They then have to act like the Smurf drawn and people have to guess who they are. If you have a Nintendo Wii, then you might want to check out the new Smurfs Dance Party game. The kids would enjoy rocking out to some new Smurf dance moves and music. These are just a few ideas for Smurfy fun at your party!

Food

Smurfberries

Blueberries, cherries and raspberries work really well as Smurfberries, and since it is still summertime, you can surely find all three types of berries to still be in season. Provide bowls of Smurfberries and also stack apples by threes around the party space, since apples are a healthy snack and because Smurfs are exactly three apples tall.  offer blue Kool Aid or drop a little blue food coloring into milk. If it’s a hot day and kids just want water, then pop some blue ice cubes into the water for some Smurfy fun. Make the ice cubes by adding blue food coloring to the water in the tray. Because the movie takes place in New York, I recommend serving some New York kid-friendly foods, like pizza or spaghetti bolognese. You might be tempted to try adding blue food coloring to everything you serve, but remember, kids want to eat foods they are familiar with at a party, and you’ll end up with an unfathomable amount of leftovers if you serve blue pizza or blue chicken wings. A nice, simple caesar salad is a good choice for a veggie alongside something cheesy or tomatoey. You can make up for the lack of smurfiness in the main course by serving some blue drinks. Cake

I find that cakes require lots of quiet and lots of precision, which are hard to come by in the day or so before I host a party, so I often make boxed cake for parties and then do what I can to make the cake exciting with the decorations. So, for example, for a Smurfs party, I would make a simple white or chocolate sheet cake from a box, and use white or vanilla icing on top. Then, get ahold of some smurfs figurines or Smurfs cupcake rings to place on top. Then write “Happy Birthday [Name]” on top in blue gel or icing. Or, again, if the weather is hot, and your kids and their friends are not that into cake (hey, it happens!), then serve blue jello shapes with Smurfberries and whipped cream on top!

Favors

Check out these fun favors! Boys and girls alike will enjoy these Smurfs stickers and Smurfs tattoos long after the party is over. Also, remember, on top of some great favors, your guests will also be able to take home their poofy homemade Smurf hats, thanks to your craftiness before the party. We look forward to hearing from you about how your Smurf party goes!
