We’re brimming with Deathly Hallows Party Supplies and we couldn’t be more excited about the opening of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” set to open in theaters in just a few very short days, on July 15th, 2011. Fans of the Harry Potter books and movies have been waiting with baited breath for the end to play out on the big screen, to see Harry’s final confrontation with Voldemort, the ultimate battle between good and evil.
If you’re thinking of hosting a Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows party for your son or daughter, your timing couldn’t be better! The DVD of Part 1 has already been released, and I’m sure everyone will see the final movie again and again in the coming weeks!
Invitations
Start by sending out these fantastic invitations early and you’re sure to have a great turnout. Ask guests to come in their favorite Harry Potter-themed costume for some extra fun. You’ll hopefully see lots of scarves, glasses, possible hand-knitted sweaters and Gryffindor colors! Guests can all come as supporters of the underground “Potterwatch,” or you can ask them to simply come as their favorite characters. Watch out! You might end up with some darkly clad Severus Snape and Bellatrix Lestrange at your party!
Decorations
In order to fully enjoy planning and hosting the party, why not give yourself a break from a lot of the work by purchasing one or two of our Deathly Hallows deluxe party packs? Seriously. You won’t have to think about plates, napkins, cups, streamers, balloons, a tablecloth, candles, or even thank you notes! Instead, you can spend your time putting together fun and easy homemade decorations and food that will make your party one to remember! Try to get posters from your local video or electronics store to decorate, and hang some purple and gold streamers from the ceilings.
Games and Activities
During the party, your guests may want to watch one of the Harry Potter movies, such as the DVD of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-Part 1. Or, you could treat everyone to the final movie in theaters, as the big activity of the day. Also, a costume contest is always fun. You could hand out special favors for the top three, such as a bag of Bertie Botts’ jellybeans or a magic wand. There’s no need to buy a magic wand. Pick up a stick from outside, and simply wrap one end of it in an inch or two of purple construction paper, and then wrap the other end in shiny gold paper, or dip that end in gold paint, whichever is easiest for you. And as far as the jellybeans go, you could just buy an assortment of jellybeans at your local food warehouse, and just label the jellybeans “Every Flavor Jelly Beans.” As this is a “deathly hallows” party, I would suggest a scavenger hunt, for either horcruxes or hallows. For example, you can hide a wand, a cloak and a stone, and then hide clues as to where to find them so that your guests can keep them away from the “Dark Lord.” Or you could hide replicas of the horcruxes, such as a golden cup, a black-stoned ring, a snake, etc. And leave clues to find those.
Food
Although potions do not play a large role in the final Harry Potter movie, you can still whip up some fun drinks for your guests. Simply pour a clear lemon-lime soda into different pitchers and drop a little food coloring into each one so that you have 3 or 4 different colors. Label each one creatively (i.e. Forgetfulness Potion, Protection Potion or Babbling Beverage). Then, let your guests mix the potions of their choice! Of course, you can also serve pumpkin juice, which so often comforts Harry, Ron and Hermione at Hogwarts and in the end, during their lonely quest! I’m not a fan of pumpkin juice, but served hot, with some wintry spices…the drink is palatable for us Muggles.
Food can be equally fun. Serve mini eggrolls tied up with thin ribbon, like little scrolls. Or make pigs-in-a-blanket to look like ugly toes. At a party, healthy food is a must, to balance out the sugary desserts, so a fun, Harry Potter-themed veggie dish is magical celery and carrot sticks with hummus. Place celery and carrot sticks (approximately 5 inches long) in cups to look like wands. Then, cut out Voldemort’s dark mark or the symbol of the “deathly hallows” from paper or cardboard and place it over a bowl of hummus. Then, dust the hummus with paprika or chili powder, and presto chango, you have an evil veggie dish! We found some magically delicious ideas for food from the website, www.cakehero.com. These are just a few ideas to roll with; once you get started, you’ll find it’s fun to use your imagination with the menu!
Cake
A simple dessert idea is to bake chocolate cupcakes and ice them with white frosting. Absolutely no one will judge you if you use cake-mix from a box and frosting from a can. I promise. Then spray-paint some cardboard in gold (I would just use the inside of a cereal box), and cut out gold lightening-shaped scars, representing Harry’s scar as “the chosen one.” Rest one scar on top of each frosted cupcake, and you’re done! Another option is to add chocolate icing to a big cake and to try your hand at reproducing the dark mark in an icing pen, which would really fit in with the theme of the party!
Favors
For favors, give yourself a break by keeping it sweet and simple by sending your book savvy guests home with these “Deathly Hallows” bookmarks. They will also enjoy having glowsticks (or you can call them one-way “deluminators”) with them to light up the darkness in the world. These are just a few things that will remind them of the great time they had at your party!
