The basis for SpongeBob was created in 1984 by Stephen Hillenburg, while he was teaching and studying marine biology. The first official episode aired on Nickelodeon in 1999 and has continued to entertain for 8 seasons. SpongeBob SpongeBob hit the big screen in November 2004 in the hugely popular “SpongeBob SquarePants: The Movie.”

The ultimate underwater adventure can be a memory your son or daughter will cherish forever, without breaking the bank. Here are a few ideas for decorations, games, food and favors that will help you plan the best party ever.

DECORATIONS

  • Hang blue and green streamers from the ceiling in a wave pattern. Cut out cardboard to look like a row boat bottom and hang it from the ceiling. Hang  fishing lures (without the hooks) on string taped to the ceiling.
  • Attach streamers or yarn to balloons to make jellyfish and hang from the ceiling. The usual colors are pink, purple or blue.

GAMES

  • SpongeBob SqueezePants Relay- You’ll need 2 buckets of water with a yellow sponge in each and 2 empty buckets. Set up the water buckets on one end & the empty buckets some distance away. Divide into 2 teams , 1 person at a time takes  the wet sponge, runs to the empty bucket, squeezes out the water & runs back. Set a timer for 2 or 3 minutes & the team with the most water at the end of the race wins.
  • Bubble Contest- Give the kids bubbles & see who can blow the biggest bubble, who blows the smallest bubble, and/or who blows the most bubbles at once.
  • Fish, Fish, Shark- Basically Duck, Duck Goose with an underwater theme.
  • Mr. Krab’s Money Pit- If you have a sandbox, you can mix in loose change & maybe 1 special coin (plastic gold coins work great) for the kids to dig for. Give each child a sandwich baggie to put his/her found treasure into. Depending on the size of your sandbox & the number of children at your party, it may be a good idea to have a couple kids search at a time and set a timer for 1 minute each. Whoever finds the special coin could win a prize.

FOOD

  • Krabby Patties – Hamburgers
  • Plankton Planks- Hotdogs
  • Mrs. Puff’s  Goldfish Crackers
  • Kelp Juice – Green Kool-Aid

When the undersea adventure is over and your guests are ready to leave Bikini Bottom, send them home with an awesome SpongeBob Treat Bag.  Here are more of the fun party favors you can choose from.
