Smurf Party Supplies are on the way, just in time for a brand new Smurfs movie to arrive in theaters!

As a child of the 80′s the Smurfs were a HUGE part of my childhood.  My sister won a gigantic Papa Smurf at the county fair, and I was so jealous, that I could barely stand it.  (I got over it eventually – for the most part.)  These tiny blue gnome-like creatures were all the rage in the USA and overseas, as well.  Their smurfy antics and adventures amused us to no end on Saturday mornings. They were constantly being chased and plotted against by the fiendish Gargamel, and his scraggly cat, Azrael.  One of the hallmarks of the show was the wide-ranging use of the word smurf.  It was used as every part of speech – noun, verb, adjective, adverb, etc.)  Every smurf even had it as a part of their name.  Handy Smurf, Brainy Smurf, Vanity Smurf, and of course, the beguiling Smurfette, the smurf of every smurf’s eye.  She was created by Gargamel as a prop in one of his never-ending evil plans, but just as Wile E. Coyote could never get the Roadrunner, Gargamel always lost to the smurfs.

The Smurf cartoon was also known for it’s unmistakable, unforgettable theme song. Even now, twenty years since I have thought about it, it popped right into my head, where it has apparently taken up residence for the day! Gargamel, too had his trademark sinister theme song, that always let you know he was up to no good. My apologies, and a warning in advance: once you listen to this song, you will never, ever get it out of your head. Ever.

Despite Gargamel’s schemes, the Smurfs generally lived happy contented lives of adventure and fun, in their idyllic looking Smurf Village. The show ran for nine years, from 1981-1990, and spawned countless products and toys that were the must-have toys for that generation. Pajamas, lunchboxes, yo-yo’s, toothbrushes, you name it, it had a smurf on it!

The movie will be released this summer, in 3-D where available.  And it looks as though this time, at least according to the trailer, it will be a worldwide assault!  Check out this trailer, and take a walk down memory lane with these beloved characters, or if you are a young whippersnapper, get ready to be introduced to the little blue critters that will soon be everywhere!
